This past weekend, I attended my first Phoenix Fashion Week at Talking Stick Resort…and it was a blast! I loved the format, as each night began with emerging designers competing to be named “designer of the year” (for the evening), and ended with more established designers from around the world looking to showcase their latest work. Since there’s so much to talk about, I’m splitting my recap into three posts: one for each night.
Thursday night focused on designers in the lifestyle category, so we saw everything from swimsuits to activewear to streetwear, and overall, I was really impressed. Here are the highlights…
First to take the runway Thursday night was Charmosa Swimwear with Neide Hall’s new Fireball line, and it did not disappoint! Aside from the fact that it began with a fire breather breathing fire down the runway, each piece was beautifully crafted, truly unique, and seriously left me wanting to be on a beach somewhere. Her fringe cover-ups were my absolute favorite, and I think I’ll be adding one to my wardrobe very soon.
Charmosa Swimwear was also named designer of the year in the lifestyle category at the end of the night, and I was not surprised. Really looking forward to seeing more from this designer!
Another favorite of mine was Haute Body. I’ll be honest: I sometimes really love wearing workout clothes all day, and Raquel McMorrow’s line is PERFECT for this! Not only is it super functional (she showed me all the useful little pockets in her pieces during the media day on Wednesday), but it’s really stylish!
I was obsessed with her hooded tops and could envision myself going from the gym, to the mall, to really anywhere in this “active life runway” attire, as she calls it.
Lily V Designs
Next up was Lily V Designs, and all I can say is: patterns, patterns, patterns…and beautiful ones at that!
Everything was styled perfectly, and her aztec patterns were perfectly on-trend, especially for showing in the Southwest. The fabric seemed to flow so well on the runway, and I could envision these looks being worn by so many girls around the country. There were a few pieces I’d really like to own myself :)
I should also mention that Lily V was named people’s choice winner on Saturday night, so huge congrats to her! I think this line will be wildly successful.
The final emerging designer of the night was Medium Apparel. This is a menswear line, but I found the whole show really interesting, and noticed a few pieces that would make perfect gifts for both my husband and brother.
The show started with three animators, and I don’t know if you guy know this about me, but I LOVE watching this style of hip hop dance, (So You Think You Can Dance, anyone?) so I was sold right from the start. The line was fun, interesting, and really wearable for men everywhere.
The last designer I’m going to cover in this post is one of the night’s established designers, Marly Kluge.
Marly’s Paradise Place line is a resort-wear line that I could picture being rocked on beaches around the world. I loved her use of vibrant colors and flowing fabrics!
But that’s all for day 1 of Phoenix Fashion Week at Talking Stick Resort 2015! Stay tuned for recaps of days 2 and 3 coming later this week!
