If you caught my cozy chic outfit post earlier this week or you follow me on Instagram, you know that Michael and I spent our fifth wedding anniversary weekend in Joshua Tree this past weekend. We even brought our furbabies, Shelby and Link! It turned out to be the perfect, low-key, “off-the-grid” anniversary weekend and was exactly what we were looking for in a weekend getaway.
If you’re thinking about visiting Joshua Tree, here are a few of my tips.
What to Know
Joshua Tree as a town doesn’t have much happening in it, so if you’re looking for hustle and bustle, it’s probably not the best location for you.
It’s a super quaint town surrounding the stunning Joshua Tree National Park, but much of the town is dirt roads. It’s the perfect place to become one with nature and/or unplug and unwind for the weekend!
Where to Go
We spent our time in Joshua Tree hiking at the Joshua Tree National Park, visiting the handful of little shops and restaurants in town and really just relaxing at the home we rented.
The dogs loved running around in the open desert, and we enjoyed watching the stars out by the fire or from the home’s hot tub! If you live in a light-polluted city like we do, you’ll be amazed at how many stars are actually in the sky. We also saw that crazy missile that had the entire west coast freaking out about UFOs (us included)!
Sunrises and sunsets were also to die for!
Where to Stay
We rented the most adorable home on Airbnb (use that link for $20 off your first booking), and based on the lack of hotels in the surrounding area, I’d encourage that all around unless you’d prefer camping.
There are tons of really interesting and eclectic home choices in Joshua Tree; our home was a remodeled yet vintage cottage, complete with a wood burning fireplace and vintage gas oven. It sat at the very end of a dirt road in the open desert and was the perfect secluded getaway location.
Overall, we had a great time in Joshua Tree and enjoyed our anniversary weekend. If you’re looking to get off the grid for the weekend and you don’t mind something a little more low-key, be sure to check it out!
