While detox cleansing has been pretty popular for years, I’ve always been a big fan of eating and drinking coffee and thus had until recently never really considered a cleanse. As I told a co-worker in the first few hours of my first cleanse last Thursday, “I’m Italian — I need to eat!” But alas, I decided to do it anyway, and actually, I’m pretty happy I did. While there were ups and downs during my two cleanse days, I came out feeling refreshed and looking great.
If you’re considering doing a cleanse for the first time, here’s my story in case it helps. Please note, however, that I’m not a medical professional. This is just my personal experience.
First, My Backstory
I wouldn’t consider myself to be overly health conscious. However, as I get older, I have started to care about my health more. Through my 20’s, I was one of those people who could eat just about anything and still maintain my slim figure. Thanks, Mom, for the great genes! And while I still consider myself to be thin, since I hit 30 a little over a year ago, I have noticed that any extra weight lands right in my belly. So while I’m pretty thin overall regardless, the fact that I’m not curvy makes me a little self conscious when I’m carrying extra weight around my waist, especially now that swimsuit season is upon us.
Adding to that, I’ve had some stomach issues in recent years. I’m fairly susceptible to stomach ulcers, and I’ve more recently started having an issue with bloating. I assume it’s a food intolerance, but I haven’t yet been able to pinpoint exactly what it might be associated with. So long story short, I’m still new to being really health conscious, but I want to get ahead of body changes as I get older.
With that, I regularly seek out advice from friends more educated on this topic than me, and that’s how I discovered Isagenix. I’ve been on the system for about two weeks, and part of that system involves cleansing. So here’s how that went…
How I Felt During My First Detox Cleanse
The first morning of my cleanse, I was feeling pretty hungry. Like I said, I like to eat, but I kept at it. I sipped my Cleanse for Life as scheduled, and periodically ate an Isagenix Snack to keep my blood sugar up. Lunchtime was the most difficult, because it seemed like food was all around me in the office, but I held strong. By 2pm though, something really interesting happened. I stopped being hungry and got a burst of energy. When I got home from work around 5, Michael mentioned how surprised he was to see me in a good mood — he expected me to be pretty hangry. We ran a few errands, one of which was to the grocery store, but I was feeling good! I fell asleep pretty early and slept like a rock. Seriously, it may have been the best night sleep of my life.
I woke up the next morning still feeling good. Not hungry, but with a good amount of energy ready to start the day. In the office, the cycle seemed to be the same as the previous day. I was pretty hungry in the morning, and really having cravings when everyone was eating lunch. I kept to my Cleanse for Life drink, lots of water and my Isagenix Snacks as I did the day before. And again, I got a big burst of energy around 2pm that lasted through the end of the workday.
After work, I decided to cheat. I know, I know. I couldn’t help myself though, so I had a small salad just to give myself some calories. Plus, I felt like I should be rewarded for nearly two days of sticking to my cleanse. Did I mention the second day was Cinco de Mayo?! I was pretty proud of myself either way. Again, I slept like a rock.
I woke up Saturday morning feeling great and excited to get back to my normal (yet still healthy) eating habits. Michael and I went to a pool party, and not only was I feeling healthy and energetic, I was also feeling super confident with my flat stomach. Seriously, you guys. It hasn’t been this flat in years! (For the record though, I’m sure all the barre I’ve been doing has helped too.)
Overall, I’m really glad I did the cleanse, and not just because of the flat stomach. I feel really great too! Even after a few days of eating (and drinking a little, let’s be honest), I haven’t had any problems with bloat. I’m feeling healthy, and my body feels refreshed. It’s actually quite amazing what happens when you give your body a chance to detoxify.
If you’re considering trying a cleanse, don’t be scared. It took me years to try it, but I can promise it won’t be years before I do another one. And if you’re interested in learning more about the system I used, feel free to email me.
And more importantly than anything I’ve shared here, I encourage you to feel confident in your body regardless of size. While we all get a little self conscious about things now and again, it’s incredibly important to love yourself in all your unique beauty. While a cleanse is a great way to drop water weight and rid your body of toxins, it’s really important to do these things in a truly healthy way. You’re beautiful <3
