Michael and I have been trying to get better at going on actual dates. After more than seven years of marriage, we find ourselves saying things like, “Well the other night we grabbed take out. That’s a date, right?” Hah! Needless to say, we’re working on being a little more intentional about our dating.
What’s so nice about where we live is that although we spend most of our time in suburbs, Phoenix really is right around the corner. And downtown has some really great date spots! Last Friday, we opted for a casual date night starting with some cocktails and appetizers at Hanny’s and ending with a Phoenix Suns basketball game.
Drinks & Apps at Hanny’s
Right after work, we headed downtown for some cocktails and a bite at Hanny’s. We hadn’t been before, but the location was great, and the food and cocktails were even better. I had a peartini, and Michael had his go-to old fashioned. We split a prosciutto pizza, which was the perfect pre-game bite.
Pretty sure Hanny’s is Michael’s new favorite because half the menu has prosciutto on it. My favorite thing about it was the odd decor; it’s an old department store with a slightly creepy basement, an old elevator shaft and mirrored bathrooms that were once fitting rooms. I realize now I should have taken more photos of the oddities, but you can see them on Hanny’s Instagram.
Catching the Phoenix Suns
After we were sufficiently full, we walked over to Talking Stick Arena for the Phoenix Suns v. the LA Clippers. (PS: Use the code NICOLE for 20% off merch or this link to purchase tickets to the upcoming Suns game.) One of my favorite things about living in the Phoenix area is having all these local sporting events at our disposal!
Sadly, the Suns didn’t win, but we had a blast — and a few more cocktails ;) Win or lose, it’s still a great time.
After the game, we planned to grab a drink at our favorite downtown cocktail bar, Bitter & Twisted, but apparently everyone else downtown had the same idea…so we headed home and went to bed like the old people we are ;) All in all, a great casual date night in downtown Phoenix!
Disclosure: While all opinions are my own, the Phoenix Suns provided us complimentary tickets, and Hanny’s provided us a gift certificate toward our meal.
